NHL roundup: New York Islanders acquire Jordan Eberle from Edmonton Oilers

The New York Islanders acquired Jordan Eberle from the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday for fellow forward Ryan Strome.

Eberle collected 20 goals and 31 assists while playing in 82 games last season for the Oilers. The 26-year-old has scored 165 goals and set up 217 others in 507 career games since being selected by Edmonton with the 22nd overall pick of the 2008 draft.

Eberle is entering the fifth season of a six-year, $36 million deal he signed before the 2012-13 campaign.

Strome, who is entering the final season of a two-year deal, recorded 13 goals and 17 assists in 69 games with the Islanders in 2016-17.

2. The Carolina Hurricanes acquired defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk and a seventh-round pick in the 2018 NHL draft from the Vegas Golden Knights for a second-round selection in this year's draft.

Vegas announced van Riemsdyk as a member of its team during the expansion draft on Wednesday.

Van Riemsdyk recorded five goals, 11 assists and a plus-17 rating in 58 games last season with the Chicago Blackhawks.

3. The Montreal Canadiens acquired defenseman David Schlemko from the Golden Knights for a fifth-round pick in the 2019 NHL draft.

The Golden Knights selected Schlemko in Wednesday's expansion draft from the San Jose Sharks.

Schlemko recorded two goals and 16 assists in 62 games last season with San Jose.

4. Hall of Fame defenseman Chris Pronger was named the Florida Panthers' senior advisor to the team's president of hockey operations.

Pronger, 42, joins the Panthers' front office after working with the NHL's Department of Player Safety since 2014.

Pronger, who was a Hart and Norris Trophy winner in 2000, helped Canada win the gold medal in the 2002 and 2010 Winter Olympics.

5. The Washington Capitals re-signed defenseman Christian Djoos to a two-year, $1.3 million contract.

The contract is a two-way deal during the 2017-18 season and one-way for the 2018-19 campaign.

Djoos recorded career highs in goals (13), assists (45) and games played (66) with Hershey of the American Hockey League last season. His assist total was tied for first among AHL defensemen.

6. After being one of the last two teams on the ice in the Stanley Cup Final, the Pittsburgh Penguins will be one of the first to take it when the NHL begins the 2017-18 season.

The NHL unveiled the 1,271-game regular-season schedule. The regular season will conclude on April 7, 2018.

The Penguins will raise the franchise's fifth Stanley Cup championship banner to the rafters at PPG Paints Arena on Oct. 4 prior to their season-opening game against the visiting St. Louis Blues.

The Vegas Golden Knights will visit the Dallas Stars to play their first regular-season game on Oct. 6.

7. The Los Angeles Kings hired Don Nachbaur as an assistant coach on John Stevens' staff, the team announced.

Nachbaur spent the past seven years as the head coach of Spokane of the Western Hockey League.

8. The Dallas Stars named Rick Wilson and Stu Barnes as assistant coaches.

The two will join Curt Fraser as an assistant to new head coach Ken Hitchcock.
