Pittsburgh Penguins Chad Ruhwedel signs two-year deal to stay with champs

The Pittsburgh Penguins re-signed defenseman Chad Ruhwedel to a two-year, $1.3 million contract on Thursday.

The deal runs through the 2018-19 season and has an average annual value of $650,000.

Ruhwedel, 27, played in a career-high 34 regular-season games this past season, scoring two goals to go along with eight assists and a plus-9 rating. He also played in six playoff games.

Ruhwedel made his Pittsburgh debut on Dec. 20 against the New York Rangers and scored his first NHL goal three nights later vs. the New Jersey Devils.
