Skateboarder pulls off rad marriage proposal

May 22 (UPI) -- The Vans Skatepark was already a special place for skateboarders Alec Beck and Amelia Brodka, and that was before they got engaged there.

Brodka was doing an interview at the California skate park and talked about how the couple met there. The annual Vans Pool Party took place last week at the infamous Orange, Calif. skating mecca.

"We actually celebrate our anniversary," Brodka said in her interview. "The day we met at Vans. We come here every year."

Beck used the opportunity to skate over and hop out of the Combi Bowl, landing in a slide on his knees. He then lifted one leg up and kneeled to ask for Brodka's hand in marriage.

She said yes and jumped excitedly.

"You've seen clever wedding proposals, but you've probably never seen a kneeslide-engagement before. Congrats @alec_beck & @ameliabrodka on winning the best trick at #vanspoolparty yesterday. #skaterdater," Tony Hawk wrote on social media.

The video has more than 19,600 upvotes on Reddit. Beck's Instagram video has more than 11,600 likes, while Hawk's has more than 422,000.

"For my friends who haven't seen how lucky I am yet," Beck wrote on social media. "A special moment between me and @ameliabrodka, thank you so much for saying yes, darling. HUGE thanks to @vans, @vansgirl1, @stevevandoren, @mateo_ramirez, Kelly, Megan, and @nealhendrix for the perfect assist. I'll post another angle in a few (don't care if you're tired of it) #vanspoolparty #proposal."

Tom Schaar finished first in the pro results at the 2017 Vans Pool Party. Andy Macdonald led the Masters results and Steve Caballero led the Legends.
