New York man bowls perfect 300 in 'record' 86.9 seconds

April 25 (UPI) -- Ben Ketola set a "world record" by bowling a 300 in 86.9 seconds on April 5 at a New York bowling alley.

Ketola, 23, works at 281 Bowl in Cortland, N.Y. He accomplished the feat by throwing 12 strikes in a row while using 10 lanes. The Preble, N.Y. resident said he bowls 50 games a week. He normally scores an average of 225, according to Syracuse.com.

Ketola uses two hands to throw each strike. He was exhausted after accomplishing the record, which was recorded on a cellphone originally. The speedy bowler races from lane to lane to break the record, getting two strikes on lanes one and two.

"We just got done with a women's league so Wednesday night, 50 women, pulling across the house," Ketola said in a YouTube video he posted. "Throwing plastic balls. Every lane is burnt out, carried down and everything that comes with throwing plastic. I threw 12 strikes. Two on lane one, two on lane two and one on every other lane in the house."

Ketola also used 10 different bowling balls to accomplish the feat.

"Now I challenge anyone to try to do this," Ketola said. "On a burnt out shot after a league...10 different lanes, 10 different bowling balls.

In 2015, professional bowler Tom Daugherty posted a YouTube video showing himself accomplishing the same challenge in 1 minutes and 50.99 seconds.

"I also want to say, Tom Daugherty, my 300 game is way better than yours," Ketola said in his YouTube video.

There is currently no speed category in the official United States Bowling Congress record books for a perfect game. Ketola is basing his "world record" off of Daugherty's score, which he billed as a world record at the time.
