Michigan reportedly loses QB Wilton Speight to broken collarbone

By The Sports Xchange

Michigan quarterback Wilton Speight will miss the remainder of the regular season with a broken collarbone, according to multiple reports Monday.

Speight, a redshirt sophomore, was injured in the fourth quarter of No. 3 Michigan's stunning 14-13 loss at Iowa on Saturday.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh said earlier Monday that Speight could be a game-time decision for Saturday's home game against Indiana.

The injury was more severe than Speight knew after the game, according to the Detroit Free Press. MGoBlog.com was first to report the news.

"It's going to depend on how he feels," Harbaugh said Monday of Speight. "Could be a (game-time decision). We will know based on what the doctors say and how Wilton's feeling. As always, per our principle, we don't go into the specifics."

Speight was favoring his non-throwing shoulder or arm after several big hits on Saturday. He finished the game with just 103 passing yards, his second-lowest total of the season.

The 6-foot-6, 243-pound Speight has started all 10 of Michigan's games this season. He has thrown for 2,156 yards and 15 touchdowns with four interceptions.

Redshirt junior John O'Korn likely will replace Speight as the team's starter. O'Korn, who started a full season at Houston before transferring to Ann Arbor, has played in more than half of Michigan's game this season in a backup role, completing 13 of his 18 passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns.

O'Korn and senior Shane Morris will take the majority of the snaps during practices this week. Morris has completed 4 of 5 passes for 45 yards this season.
