Cleveland Browns center Cameron Erving and Dallas Cowboys defensive end David Irving were fined $9,115 by the NFL after being ejected for their skirmish in last weekend's game.

The fine for unnecessary roughness was significantly less than the $30,387 penalty for fighting. The latter total is $5 more than Irving makes in a week with his $525,000 base salary.

However, according to the collective bargaining agreement, a fine may be reduced if it exceeds 25 percent of one week of a player's salary for a first offense.

The two players didn't wait long to get acquainted, as they got tangled up on a third-down passing play in Cleveland's first offensive series on Sunday. As officials attempted to separate them, Erving ripped the helmet off of Irving.

Both were penalized and referee Jeff Triplette ejected the players.
