FLORHAM, PARK, N.J. -- Another week, another Joe Namath Twitter kerfuffle.

Namath, who wore proverbial egg on his face after wondering Oct. 23 why Geno Smith wasn't playing through what proved to be a season-ending right knee injury, tweeted at halftime of Sunday's 31-28 win over the Cleveland Browns that the Jets should bench Ryan Fitzpatrick for Bryce Petty.

Of course, to be fair to Namath, he was far from the only person watching the game to think Fitzpatrick had used up his latest second chance by going 3 of 14 for 30 yards as the Jets fell behind 20-7 at halftime.

But Fitzpatrick's terrific second half led the Jets to 24 straight points and provided more fodder for those who think Namath is overly critical of a team with whom his relationship is strained at best.

Fitzpatrick, eight days removed from declaring he was the only person to believe in himself, said Monday afternoon that he had no problem with Namath's criticism.

"It's the nature of the position," Fitzpatrick said. "When you play quarterback and the offense doesn't play well, a lot of it is because of the quarterback. You're going to receive criticism. I understand it 100 percent."

Wide receiver Brandon Marshall was not as forgiving after Sunday's win.

"I would ask Joe, can you reserve your comment until after the game?" Marshall said as he looked at a TV camera. "Two weeks in a row you've been wrong, Joe. But, again New York. I'm not going against Broadway Joe."
