Philadelphia 76ers forward Nerlens Noel underwent successful surgery on his inflamed plica in his left knee, the team announced on Tuesday.

The surgery was performed by Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Riley J. Williams at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. The 76ers did not divulge a timetable for his recovery for the 22-year-old Noel, who missed his entire first season after having surgery on the same knee.

Noel had been sidelined with a left groin strain since Oct. 6 and was previously ruled out of Wednesday's season opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Last season, Noel averaged 11.1 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.

The New Orleans Pelicans drafted Noel with the sixth overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft and later traded his rights to the Sixers.

Noel also has battled tendinitis in his right knee during his short career.
