San Antonio Spurs guard Danny Green is expected to miss three weeks with a left quadriceps strain.

The 29-year-old Green was diagnosed Friday with the injury, which originally occurred during training camp and was aggravated during a scrimmage on Tuesday.

If Green is sidelined for three weeks, he could miss the Spurs' first 10 games.

In 79 regular-season games last season, Green averaged 7.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists while shooting only 33.2 percent from 3-point range, down from his career average of 40.3 percent. He is also an excellent defensive player.

Backup guard Jonathan Simmons is also nursing an injury, but his calf bruise is not expected to keep him out of the lineup for the season opener on Tuesday night against the Golden State Warriors.

Guard Kyle Anderson started in place of Simmons on Friday night in the team's final preseason game.
