The Washington Redskins may be without their top receiver when they play the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Redskins tight end Jordan Reed has been diagnosed with another concussion, Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Thursday, and Reed is now in the NFL's concussion protocol.

This is the sixth documented concussion for Reed dating back to his college days at the University of Florida.

Gruden did not officially rule Reed out for Sunday's game, but it is unlikely he will be cleared to play given his history of concussions.

"We have to just take each individual injury for what they are," Gruden said. "We let the independent doctor and our doctors decide on how severe they are. That's all I can say. We obviously want him to get well. He's a very important part of our offense, but we also want him to get better from a personal standpoint."

Reed reported concussion-like symptoms on Tuesday and was held out of practice on Wednesday.

Reed leads the Redskins with 33 receptions for 316 yards this year. He also has two touchdown receptions. Last season, Reed had 87 catches for 952 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Reed had concussions in 2011 and 2012 at Florida, then had two concussions as an NFL rookie in 2013. He had his fifth concussion last season, but still played in 15 games, including one playoff game.

The Redskins are riding a three-game winning streak, but if Reed is lost for an extended period, it may affect their offense significantly.

Vernon Davis is listed as the Redskins' second-team tight end, and he has 10 receptions for 94 yards and no touchdowns this season.

"I think we have Vernon Davis and Niles Paul ready to roll," Gruden said. "Those two guys are very good tight ends. We have good depth at that position with those two. Now we're a little worried about our depth at that position now. We had three good ones, now we have two."

Paul has one catch for 16 yards this season.
