Dak Prescott's play gives Dallas Cowboys options at QB

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Quarterback controversy? How about quarterback luxury.

That is the approach Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones took after another strong performance by rookie Dak Prescott in place of injured franchise quarterback Tony Romo.

Prescott led the NFC East-leading Cowboys to a 28-14 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, lifting Dallas to a 4-1 record. Any chance Prescott remains the starter even after Romo is healthy and cleared to play?

"I will tell you that this is a wonderful position to be in if you're in my shoes," Jones said. "We have Dak playing at the level he is, and Tony is repaired."

Jones said that Romo is healed from the back injury he sustained in the preseason, though the Cowboys haven't put a timetable on his return. Jones also is pleased with backup QB Mark Sanchez.

"We're pretty good at quarterback as far as normal times go for the Cowboys," Jones said.

Dallas coach Jason Garrett wouldn't bite when asked about a looming decision on his starter.

"Tony is working very hard on his rehab, and he's making progress," Garrett said. "Dak's done a really good job taking advantage of the opportunity. I think our team has embraced Dak. He's come in and done what we've asked him to do. He executes ball plays, so he's focused on that. Tony's focused on coming back."

Prescott has set an NFL rookie record by opening his career with 155 pass attempts without an interception. The overall record for throws without a pick to start a career is 162 by Tom Brady.

"It is meant to be broken," Prescott said. "If I don't break it, I'm sure someone else will. It's not anything that I think about going into the game."

--Cincinnati's Andy Dalton experienced a good-and-bad homecoming. The former TCU quarterback had a solid day statistically, but the Bengals fell to 2-3.

Cincinnati went to the playoffs each of the past five seasons.

"It is frustrating for us," said Dalton, who completed 29 of 41 passes for 269 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. "There are times where we feel we can do more. Everybody has got to play better, including me."
