New England Patriots sign veteran DE John Hughes

The New England Patriots signed veteran defensive end John Hughes III on Tuesday.

Hughes played in the Cleveland Browns' season opener versus Baltimore before being released on Sept. 20.

The 28-year-old recorded 109 tackles, 5.5 sacks and one forced fumble in his first four seasons since being selected by the Browns as a third-round pick in the 2012 draft.

Also on Tuesday, the Patriots signed wide receiver Da'Ron Brown to the practice squad. The 25-year-old was a selected by Kansas City in the seventh-round of the 2015 draft and spent last season on the Chiefs' practice squad before being released on Sept. 3.
