Butler was involved in a clubhouse fight last month with teammate Danny Valencia, resulting in a concussion for Butler and fines for both players.

Butler, a 2012 All-Star, signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the A's as a free agent in 2014 after eight seasons with the Kansas City Royals.

Butler hit .258 with 19 homers and 96 RBIs in 236 games in his two seasons with Oakland after batting .295 with 127 home runs and 628 RBIs with the Royals.

Butler is a .289 career hitter with 146 home runs and 724 RBIs.
