The Cleveland Browns terminated the contract of veteran linebacker Paul Kruger on Monday as part of their roster cutdown ahead of Tuesday's league-mandated deadline of 75 players.

The team also terminated the contract quarterback Austin Davis and defensive lineman Nick Hayden.

Kruger, who received a five-year, $40 million contract in 2013, had just 2.5 sacks last season after making 11 sacks in 2014.

"My experience has been amazing and I will miss wearing a Browns #99," Kruger wrote in a statement. "Although completely miss handled, unfortunate and absolutely the wrong decision to release me I do wish the Browns and especially my teammate brothers great success."

Davis was signed by the Browns last September and had his contract extended through 2017. He became expendable when the Browns drafted Cody Kessler in the third round.

The Browns also waived defensive back Sean Baker, tight end E.J. Bibbs, wide receiver Josh Boyce, kicker Travis Coons, wide receiver Ed Eagan, fullback Robert Hughes, tight end David Reeves and offensive lineman Cory Tucker.

In addition, defensive lineman Nike Lawrence-Stample (shoulder) and running back Glenn Winston (shoulder) were placed on injured reserve.

The Browns' roster is currently at 76 players. All NFL teams must reduce their rosters to 75 players by Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET and then to 53 by Saturday at 4 p.m. ET.
