Knee injury lands Boston Red Sox OF Andrew Benintendi on DL

The Boston Red Sox placed rookie outfielder Andrew Benintendi on the 15-day disabled on Thursday due to a sprained left knee.

Benintendi was injured during the seventh inning of Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. He is slated to undergo an MRI exam to determine the severity.

Benintendi is batting .324 in 68 at-bats since reaching the majors on Aug. 2. He has one homer and 10 RBIs in 21 games.

Boston recalled infielder Marco Hernandez from Triple-A Pawtucket to fill the roster spot. Hernandez was batting .309 with five homers and 29 RBIs at Pawtucket.

Hernandez has a .295 average in 44 at-bats with the Red Sox this season.
