Ryan Lochte's hair turns green from Rio chlorine

RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Superstar swimmer Ryan Lochte took a bold step in dying his hair silver before the Summer Games.

On Tuesday it backfired.

Lochte broke the No. 1 rule for bleached blondes by diving into the chlorinated pools in Rio de Janeiro.

When he came out his hair became green.

Lochte was part of the team winning Tuesday's men's 4x200-meter freestyle relay. He posted a photo on Instagram afterwards with the color filter embellishing his new shade.

"There it is the 4 x 200 free relay winning #gold for #USA #oympics," Lochte wrote.

Lochte will compete at 10:38 p.m. Wednesday in the men's 200-meter individual medley.
