Turner Sports reporter Craig Sager will be unable to cover basketball at the Summer Olympics after beginning another round of chemotherapy in his battle against leukemia, NBC announced Thursday.

Sager, 65, is receiving treatment in Houston while continuing his public fight against the disease.

"Craig Sager has returned to MD Anderson to continue his fight against leukemia," NBC said in its statement. "He is preparing for a third bone marrow transplant which will prevent him from covering the Olympics in Rio. We wish him the best in his continued recovery."

Sager has covered four previous Olympics and was hoping to delay this latest procedure until after the Games in Rio de Janeiro were over.

"I'll be watching it all," Sager told the Houston Chronicle. "It's sad that some of the biggest names in golf and basketball have withdrawn, but it's still the greatest spectacle. The greatest honor, the greatest thing in sports is to be an Olympian."

Sager was diagnosed with leukemia in 2014.
