Atlanta Falcons S Charles Godfrey retires

Safety Charles Godfrey, who signed a one-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons in March, announced his retirement Wednesday after two NFL seasons.

Godfrey was originally selected by the Carolina Panthers in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft out of Iowa. He signed by the Falcons in 2014 and played in five games that season. In 2015, Godfrey played in eight games for Atlanta and recorded 12 total tackles, a forced fumble and one pass defensed.

The Falcons also announced they signed tight end Arthur Lynch and wide receiver Corey Washington.

Lynch was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins out of Georgia. Last season, he was signed to the Denver Broncos practice squad.

Washington was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Arizona Cardinals following the 2014 NFL Draft out of Newberry College. He was signed by the New York Giants and played in 14 games during his rookie season, recording five receptions for 52 yards. He did not play in any NFL games last season.
