Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson begins training camp on the physically unable to perform list when workouts begin Tuesday in Green Bay.

Nelson, recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, missed the entire 2015 regular season and playoffs and said in June he will be 100 percent at the start of the 2016 regular season in September.

Nelson, tight end Jared Cook, linebacker Sam Barrington, center Corey Linsley, offensive tackler T.J. Lang and wide receiver Ty Montgomery are all starting camp on the PUP list.

After a conditioning test and medical evaluation on Monday, Nelson wasn't cleared despite being 11 months removed from the knee injury he suffered in a preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Head coach Mike McCarthy said before word broke of the roster designation that quarterback Aaron Rodgers reported in tip-top shape. That fed McCarthy's belief that the pitch-and-catch combo would be healthy in short order.

"I think we're all confident, Aaron and Jordy included, that they're going to get it back," McCarthy said Monday. "It's just getting back out on the field and getting the reps. You're talking about two players that have, shoot, thousands of reps invested in their time together. Yeah, I have great confidence they'll get that back."

Unlike the regular-season PUP list, players can be transferred to active status at any time during camp.

Cook signed as a free agent and is expected to compete with Richard Rodgers for reps with the first-team offense. He underwent foot surgery in the offseason and is expected to be ready during the preseason, but the Packers are likely to be cautious.
