Chicago Cubs acquire Mike Montgomery in trade with Seattle Mariners

The Chicago Cubs addressed their bullpen needs on Wednesday by acquiring left-hander Mike Montgomery in a four-player deal with the Seattle Mariners.

The Cubs also picked up right-hander Jordan Pries for prospect Dan Vogelbach and right-hander Paul Blackburn.

Montgomery, who was a first-round selection by Kansas City in the 2008 draft, posted a 3-4 mark with a 2.34 ERA in 32 games with the Mariners this season. The 27-year-old began the campaign in the bullpen before striking out 10 while splitting a pair of starts.

Pries posted a 7-3 mark with a 4.92 ERA in 20 games between Double-A Jackson and Triple-A Tacoma this season. The 26-year-old owns a 2-1 record and 3.65 ERA in seven appearances (three starts) in Triple-A.

Vogelbach, a first baseman who was selected by the Cubs in the second round of the 2011 draft, is batting .318 with 16 homers and 64 RBIs in his first season with Triple-A Iowa. The 24-year-old was named to the Triple-A All-Star team and leads the Pacific Coast League with a .425 on-base percentage.

Blackburn posted a 6-4 mark with a 3.17 ERA in 18 starts with Double-A Tennessee. The 22-year-old was named the Southern League Pitcher of the Week on April 24.
