Even Johnny Manziel's father says jail might be the best place for his son.

In a statement to ESPN, Paul Manziel says his son is a "druggie" and pleas for his son to come to his senses and get meaningful help.

"He's a druggie. It's not a secret that he's a druggie. I don't know what to say other than my son is a druggie and he needs help. He just hasn't seeked it yet. Hopefully he doesn't die before he comes to his senses. That's about all you can say. I don't know what else to say. I hate to say it but I hope he goes to jail. I mean, that would be the best place for him. So we'll see."

The 23-year-old Manziel was released by the Cleveland Browns earlier this year and has been seen mostly in partying situations. He faces charges stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident with his ex-girlfriend.

Manziel's attorney, Bob Hinton, has indicated that he will seek a plea deal for his client. In what has been described as an inadvertent text sent to The Associated Press, Hinton said, "Heaven help us if one of the conditions is to pee in a bottle."

Manziel was involved in a hit-and-run earlier this week in Dallas.

Hinton's accidental text also included that he "was given a receipt by a colleague that purports to show (Johnny) Manziel spent more than $1,000 at a drug paraphernalia shop 15 hours" after the hit-and-run.
