The Seattle Mariners selected Trey Griffey, son of franchise icon Ken Griffey Jr., in the 24th round of the Major League Baseball draft.

The round happens to match the number Ken Griffey Jr. wore during his standout career. Seattle will retire Griffey's No. 24 later this season and he will enter the National Baseball Hall of Fame this summer.

The younger Griffey was selected Saturday and the pick certainly seemed symbolic as he hasn't played competitive baseball since before high school. Trey Griffey is a college football receiver for Arizona and will be entering his senior season this fall.

Another familiar name selected Saturday was Notre Dame outfielder Torii Hunter Jr., son of the former star player of the same name. The younger Hunter was chosen in the 23rd round by the Los Angeles Angels - one of the teams Torii Hunter played for during his long career that ended last season.
