Jordan Spieth paired with Zach Johnson in U.S. Open

The pairings were announced Friday for next week's U.S. Open and defending champion Jordan Spieth will play with British Open champion Zach Johnson and U.S. Amateur Bryson DeChambeau in the first two rounds at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa.

The threesome will tee off at 8:35 a.m. ET Thursday in the opening round of the 116th national championship. Spieth is ranked No. 2 in the world.

Top-ranked Jason Day will be paired with fellow Australian native Adam Scott and Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa. World No. 3 Rory McIlroy will tee off with Masters champion Danny Willett and Rickie Fowler on Thursday morning.

Phil Mickelson, Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson are grouped in a Thursday afternoon pairing. Dustin Johnson, who finished second to Spieth by one shot in the U.S. Open a year ago at Chambers Bay, is playing with Hideki Matsuyama and Sergio Garcia.

Bubba Watson, Matt Kuchar and Patrick Reed have an early morning tee time on Thursday.

The 156-player field will be finalized Sunday by the United States Golf Association after the FedEx St. Jude Classic.
