The Los Angeles Rams waived Stedman Bailey, who is still recovering from two gunshot wounds to the head suffered last November, with the non-football injury designation.

Bailey is expected to rejoin the team in a non-football playing capacity if he clears waivers, according to multiple reports.

Bailey, 25, has been attending offseason workouts and organized team activities in Oxnard, Calif., but has not been cleared to participate. He has been helping the wide receivers in drills.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher said last week that having Bailey around the team has been positive.

"It's been great to have him," Fisher said. "He's been in the meetings, been helping out."

On Nov. 24, Bailey was shot twice in the head while sitting in a car in his hometown of Miami. At the time, he was serving a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

Bailey, a 2013 third-round pick out of West Virginia, had 12 receptions for 182 yards and one touchdown in eight games last season. He caught 59 passes for 843 yards and two touchdowns in three seasons with the Rams.
