Third baseman David Wright remains on the New York Mets' active roster for now, but he could be headed for the disabled list after receiving an injection in his neck on Tuesday.

Wright said Monday night that he's dealing with a herniated disk in his neck. Until the shot takes effect in 48 hours, the Mets won't know Wright's status going forward.

"I think it's serious," Mets manager Terry Collins said.

Wright, who previously overcame career-threatening spinal stenosis, woke up with a stiff neck last week. He also is dealing with a back issue.

"It's frustrating, but it's not anything I can prevent from happening," Wright said Monday. "I wish I could. It's frustrating to sit there and watch the guys go out there, it's frustrating that it's something else that I have to worry about other than my back, but again, I'm doing everything in my power to try to stay on the field ... It is what it is, and you try to keep grinding and fight your way through it."

Wright is batting .226 with seven home runs and 14 RBIs this season. He hit home runs in three straight games last week and five in May.

Rookie Ty Kelly started in Wright's place on Monday night and picked up his first major league hit.
