KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- An injury to All-Star catcher Salvador Perez put a damper on the Kansas City Royals' 8-7 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday.

Perez had to be helped from the field by manager Ned Yost and trainer Nick Kenney in the ninth inning after colliding with third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert while catching an Adam Eaton foul fly.

The early diagnosis was a bruised left thigh. Perez was taken for a MRI and the results will be released Sunday.

As Perez was trying to make the catch on a foul popup by Chicago's Adam Eaton about 30 feet from home plate, Cuthbert came sliding in and struck Perez on the left thigh with a forearm and elbow.

After Perez left the game, the Royals rallied in the bottom of the ninth with seven runs for the improbable win.

"Now it's a waiting game," teammate Eric Hosmer said. "We won the game today, but that will be the more important win if we find out nothing serious with him happened. Salvy is our guy. He's the leader of this team. He's an All-Star. He's everything.

"When you see a guy like that goes down, it fires you up. You want to pick up the pace cause you've got to pick him up."

Yost remained optimistic.

"The good thing about it, at least as far as we could tell, there was no structural damage to his knee," he said. "So that was what I was worried about. He sustained a pretty good quad contusion (and) Cheslor suffered a mild quad contusion when they hit."

The Royals have dealt with a rash of injuries this week. Third baseman Mike Moustakas and left fielder Alex Gordon were hurt Sunday in a collision while pursuing a foul ball.

Gordon was lost for 3-to-4 weeks with a broken right wrist. Moustakas suffered a torn ACL that could end his season.
