Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver Dez Bryant, rehabbing from January surgery to his right foot, is making progress but may not practice before training camp.

Bryant underwent surgery on his foot and ankle after he missed seven games with various injuries, including a broken foot, last season.

Head coach Jason Garrett is pleased with Bryant's progress.

"He's done a really good job with his rehab and he's made progress," Garrett said Saturday. "Like with all those guys, it's a day-by-day, week-by-week thing. But he's had no setbacks, but he really continues to get better and better."

Bryant greeted many of the rookies in the locker room during rookie minicamp at the Cowboys' Valley Ranch facility in Irving, Texas.

Bryant was on the field while the rookies practiced, speaking with owner and general manager Jerry Jones and catching a few passes off to the side.

Garrett has been cautious whether Bryant would be a full participant at the June minicamp.

"I don't think there's any balance. It's all about just being healthy," Garrett said, via ESPN.com. "As soon as he's healthy, he'll get integrated back in. He's doing everything we're asking him to do with his rehab, and he's making progress.

"There will be different thresholds he'll have as we would with any injured player, 'He's doing this well, let's take the next step. He's doing this well, let's take the next step.' So we'll do that with him, and hopefully over the course of the offseason and into training camp he'll start playing some football with us."

Bryant initially injured his foot in the 2015 season opener, fracturing the fifth metatarsal in his right foot, commonly known as a Jones fracture. He missed the next five games, and had a bone graft inserted to help the healing process. Bryant also had a stem cell injection in October to enhance the healing.

Bryant returned in Week 8 against Seattle, catching two passes for 12 yards. He injured his right ankle and left knee the following week against Philadelphia on a touchdown catch.

Bryant played with both injuries the next six games but the Cowboys ended his season by placing him on injured reserve, marking the least productive season in Bryant's career. He finished the year with 31 catches for 401 yards with three touchdowns in nine games.
