San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, recovering from offseason shoulder, knee and thumb surgeries, continues to prepare for the 2016 season after months of trade talks.

A league source told the Sacramento Bee on Tuesday that Kaepernick has resumed throwing a "bit" and doctors are expected to clear him by the end of the month or soon thereafter.

Last month, the 49ers were getting closer to trading Kaepernick to the Denver Broncos. But the 49ers, Broncos and Kaepernick could not agree on who would pay the quarterback's $11.9 million guaranteed salary for the 2016 season.

Kaepernick, 28, has been with the 49ers since they selected him in the second round of the 2011 draft. He played in only nine games last season due to a shoulder injury that landed him on injured reserve, and he lost his starting job to Blaine Gabbert.

Kaepernick finished with 1,615 passing yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions in 2015. In five seasons, he has thrown for 10,030 yards with 56 touchdowns and 26 interceptions.

The 49ers drafted quarterback Jeff Driskel of Louisiana Tech in the sixth round last week.

Head coach Chip Kelly and general manager Trent Baalke were asked whether the draft squelched the possibility of a trade involving Kaepernick.

"I think he's been outstanding," Kelly said. "I think he doesn't get the credit for that. He's been here every day and worked as hard as anybody on this football team in terms of preparing for the 2016 season, and that's the way we are with him. We're moving forward."

Baalke said, "We've answered this question a lot, and we're moving forward with the guys that are on this football team, and Colin's on this football team and been a big part of this football team for a long time."
