Jacksonville Jaguars to decline option on Luke Joeckel

Offensive tackle Luke Joeckel was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he has not lived up to expectations, and the Jaguars will decline to exercise their fifth-year option on Joeckel, multiple media outlets reported Monday.

Despite Joeckel's high draft position, the Jaguars' move is not a complete surprise. The Jaguars signed free-agent left tackle Kevin Beachum, who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season, and Beachum is expected to occupy the starting left tackle spot for the Jaguars in 2015.

Joeckel could be moved to a guard position, and it is also possible that Joeckel will not be in the starting lineup at all.

The Jaguars have not seen enough out of Joeckel to continue to pay him the salary such a high draft pick receives. He is scheduled to make about $3.3 million in 2016.
