The Chicago Bears released veteran safety Antrel Rolle on Sunday after one injury-plagued season with the team.

Rolle, 33, played in just seven games due to ankle and knee injuries. He signed a three-year, $11.25 million deal as a free agent in March, 2015.

Rolle acknowledged his release on his Twitter account:

"I appreciate the Chicago Bears and the organization for the opportunity. Blessed as always. Looking forward to what is next!"

Chicago also announced the release of offensive lineman Matt Slauson.

Slauson, 30, started all 16 games last season -- 12 at left guard and four at center. He spent the past three seasons with Chicago after playing his first four campaigns with the New York Jets.

"We thank Matt and Antrel for the dedication and leadership they brought to our organization," Bears general manager Ryan Pace said in a statement. "Both men did everything we asked of them. Part of growing as a team is making difficult decisions like the ones we made today.

"We never take them lightly given the respect we have for everyone who has put on a Bears uniform. We wish each of them the very best as they move forward."

Rolle didn't intercept a pass last season after accumulating 26 during his first 10 NFL seasons.

Rolle was the eighth overall selection in 2005 by the Arizona Cardinals and played his first five seasons with that organization before playing the next five seasons with the New York Giants.

The three-time Pro Bowler had a career-high six interceptions in 2013 with the Giants.
