Serena Williams to miss Madrid Open

Serena Williams will miss the Madrid Open due to due flu-like symptoms.

Williams is a two-time winner of the event (2012, '13), and will be replaced by Agnieszka Radwanska as the top seed for the tournament, which gets.

"Unfortunately, I have to withdraw from Madrid because I've been battling the flu and I'm not at 100 percent. I look forward to returning soon," Williams said.

Williams, who is seeking to defend her French Open title in June, will now look to begin her clay court season at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in May.

Radwanska will play French Open semifinalist Dominika Cibulkova in the opening round.
