Texas Rangers give Adrian Beltre 2-year extension

The Texas Rangers reached agreement on a two-year contract extension with All-Star third baseman Adrian Beltre through the 2018 season.

The Rangers announced the new deal with Beltre after their 11-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night. A news conference is set for Saturday afternoon.

The contract was reported to worth $36 million. Beltre' current nine-year, $96 million deal was to end after the 2016 season. His salary is $16 million this season.

The 37-year-old Beltre had two home runs and nine RBIs and was batting .310 through the first 11 games of the season.

Beltre compiled 415 career home runs, 2,780 hits and 1,476 RBIs in his career. He also has won four Gold Gloves and been named to the All-Star team four times.
