Drew, who starred at Valpo before returning to replace his father and longtime coach Homer as head coach, won the Horizon League title four times in five seasons. Valpo reached the NIT championship game last week, losing to George Washington in the final to end with a 28-10 record.

Valparaiso's 58 wins the past two seasons are the most by a non-major conference team, and the Crusaders have the highest winning percentage during that span at .817. They reached the NCAA Tournament in 2013 and 2015.

Bryce Drew is the younger brother of Scott Drew, who has been coach at Baylor since 2003. Vanderbilt is replacing Stallings, who was hired at Pitt to replace Jamie Dixon.

Vanderbilt finished 19-14 overall and 11-7 in the Southeastern Conference during the 2015-16 season. The Commodores lost to Wichita State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in March.

Bryce Drew played for the Crusaders from 1994 to 1998 and was drafted 16th overall in the 1998 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets and also played for the Chicago Bulls and in Charlotte before spending two years playing overseas.

He was an assistant coach at Valparaiso from 2005 to 2011.

Bryce Drew was hired as Valpo's head coach in 2011. His teams won at least 22 games in four of the five seasons since he took over.
