Washington Capitals forward Jason Chimera was fined $5,000 after he jabbed Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere with the butt-end of his stick during Wednesday night's game in Philadelphia.

The fine, announced Thursday by the NHL Department of Player Safety, is the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Chimera was skating behind the goal after a stoppage in play when he subtly jabbed Gostisbehere in the midsection. Gostisbehere fell to the ice momentarily but then got up and called out Chimera at 17:29 of the second period.

There were no penalties assessed on the play and the Flyers went on to win 2-1 in a shootout.

The 36-year-old Chimera has 18 goals, 20 assists and 20 penalty minutes in 76 games this season for the Capitals.
