The Baltimore Ravens released safety Will Hill on Wednesday, and soon after the move was made multiple media outlets reported Hill is facing a 10-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

The Ravens and free safety Eric Weddle agreed to a four-year, $29 million deal on Monday, leading to questions about he and Will Hill would share playing time in 2016.

The Ravens solved that problem by releasing Hill. It means converted cornerback Lardarius Webb is likely to start alongside Weddle at the safety spots.

Hill, 26, entered the league in 2012, and this is the fourth time he has violated the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Hill signed with the Ravens in 2014 after being cut by the New York Giants following his third violation of the policy, and he was suspended for six games in the 2014 season.

Last August, the Ravens signed Hill to a two-year contract worth $7 million, including $5 million guaranteed.

He played in 16 games for Baltimore in 2015, including 14 starts, and had one interception and one sack.

By releasing Hill, the Ravens save nearly $3 million in salary-cap space.
