Buffalo Bills cornerback Leodis McKelvin was released on Friday.

McKelvin, 30, was limited last season to five starts after returning from a broken ankle in Nov. 2014.

Rookie Ronald Darby graded out as one of the best cover men in the AFC last season and helped to make McKelvin expendable.

The Bills have parted with several veterans this week, starting Tuesday with the expected release of 31-year-old defensive end Mario Williams, guard Kraig Urbik and running back Boobie Dixon.

Releasing McKelvin saves the Bills $3.9 million against their 2016 cap.

Williams had five sacks in 2015 and with two years left on his deal, was released before he counted $19.9 million against the salary cap in 2016. Releasing Williams saved the Bills $12.9 million against the salary cap.

The Bills had not made progress in contract talks with offensive guard Richie Incognito, who was named to the Pro Bowl in 2016 after playing on a one-year deal. Buffalo used the franchise tag to retain left tackle Cordy Glenn.
