Los Angeles Rams, Jeff Fisher talk new contract

Jeff Fisher and the Los Angeles Rams are in contract negotiations geared toward a new deal to before the team plays a game in California in 2016.

Fisher is 27-36-1 with the Rams in four seasons and becomes the first coach since Dave Shula to get a fifth year after starting his tenure with the team with four consecutive losing seasons.

Fisher, who grew up in California -- he was born in Culver City -- and played at Southern Cal, said at the NFL Scouting Combine last week that he was ready to dust off his surfboard. The 58-year-old makes $7 million annually under the terms of his expiring five-year deal.

ESPN reported the contract could be structured as a short-term extension expiring in 2018 to coincide with the opening of the team's new stadium in Inglewood.
