The Cleveland Indians signed free agent right-handed relief pitcher Tommy Hunter to a one-year contract, the team announced Friday.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported the contract is worth $2 million and is a major-league deal, which means Hunter will have a spot on the team's Opening Day 40-man roster, assuming he is fully recovered from offseason core muscle surgery. It is possible he may start on the season on the disabled list.

Hunter, 29, owns a career record of 46-33 with a 4.31 ERA. In 2015, Hunter was 4-2 with a 4.18 ERA in a season split between the Baltimore Orioles and the Chicago Cubs.

His ERA was 2.81 in 2013 and 2.97 in 2014 for the Orioles.

To provide space on the 40-man roster, the Indians designated catcher Tony Wolters for assignment.
