The Houston Rockets are sliding in the Western Conference standings, and Yahoo Sports reported that the Rockets are actively shopping center Dwight Howard.

According to the report, the Rockets have already contacted teams about the possibility of trading Howard, an eight-time All-Star.

Howard, 30, is expected to opt out in his contract this summer to become an unrestricted free agent, so the Rockets might want to get something in exchange for Howard now rather than get nothing in return if he leaves after this season.

The NBA's trade deadline is Feb. 18 and the Rockets are working with Howard's agent, Dan Fegan, on teams that Howard might want to join.

It is unclear what the Rockets can expect to get in exchange for Howard.

He is averaging 14.6 points this season, which his lowest scoring average in his 12 NBA seasons. However, he still is an effective rebounder, averaging 12.0 boards per game.

The Rockets seem to have little chance of challenging for a title this season. After reaching the Western Conference finals last season, the Rockets are 27-28 this season, leaving them in ninth place in the West and riding a three-game losing streak.
