USC AD Pat Haden falls ill on campus

By The Sports Xchange

USC athletic director Pat Haden was taken by paramedics to a hospital near campus in Los Angeles on Wednesday after collapsing.

The university said in a release that Haden was walking to his office after a meeting when he felt lightheaded and sat down outside the athletic department building. Staff medical personnel came to his aid and he then was transported from campus to be seen by his doctor.

A school spokesman said Haden was alert and talking.

Haden, who is stepping down June 30 as AD, has a history of heart problems and wears a pacemaker. He had a bout of lightheadedness on the field at Notre Dame in October before the Trojans played the Fighting Irish and was examined in the locker room at the stadium.

Haden, a former USC quarterback, served on the inaugural College Football Playoff selection committee but stepped down in October after his doctor advised him to restrict travel. He will continue at USC through 2017 in an advisory capacity to oversee renovation of Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
