Premier League's Arsenal to visit U.S. to play MLS All-Stars

Premier League club Arsenal will travel from England to face the MLS All-Stars on July 28 in San Jose, Calif., Major League Soccer announced Thursday.

The game will be played at Avaya Stadium, the home of the San Jose Earthquakes that opened last year, and broadcast on ESPN and Sky Sports.

Arsenal also will play an exhibition against the Mexican club Chivas on July 31 at the StubHub Center in Los Angeles as part of its trip to the United States during its preseason training.

Last year, the MLS All-Stars faced Tottenham. It will be the ninth time in the past 12 seasons that the MLS team has faced an English opponent.

Arsenal has won 13 Premier League championships and 12 FA cups, two league titles and 14 community shields

"We are pleased to welcome Arsenal, one of the most successful clubs in the world, to compete against the best of MLS," MLS commissioner Don Garber said in a statement. "Our AT&T MLS All-Star Week has become a celebration for the North American soccer community, highlighted by two teams showcasing many of the world's top players."

Arsenal last played in the United States in 2014 against the New York Red Bulls.

"Preseason is a critically important time for us and we are delighted to be going to San Jose and Los Angeles to participate in the 2016 MLS All-Star game and to play Chivas," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said in a statement. "We have tremendous support across America and enjoyed our visit to New York in the summer of 2014. ... We look forward to giving our U.S. fans the chance to see the team play live."
