Baltimore Orioles sign Rafael Palmeiro's son to minor-league deal

The Baltimore Orioles have signed third baseman Patrick Palmeiro, the son of former slugger Rafael Palmeiro, to a minor-league contract.

Palmeiro, 26, played for the Sugar Land (Texas) Skeeters of the Atlantic League last season. He previously had been in the Chicago White Sox system.

Rafael Palmeiro briefly joined his son in September for a stint with the Skeeters. The elder Palmeiro had two hits in four at-bats with an RBI and a walk in his only game with the team

Palmeiro his .256 with 13 home runs and 68 RBIs in 128 games for the Skeeters.

Another of Palmeiro's sons, Preston, is a first baseman at North Carolina State.
