SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Fun-loving Cam Newton turned into sourpuss Cam in his postgame press conference after the Carolina Panthers lost Super Bowl 50 to the Denver Broncos.

Newton shuffled to a podium in the bowels of Levi's Stadium about 30 minutes after Denver finished off a 24-10 victory.

Newton scowled and closed his eyes as one television reporter jostling a microphone attempted to prod the league MVP about the loss.

The internet was abuzz late Sunday over why Newton didn't pounce on a fumble with four minutes left in the fourth quarter that led to running back C.J. Anderson scoring the first touchdown of the game, and Denver going up 24-10.

With a black Panthers hooded sweatshirt on, Newton fielded only seven questions before walking back to the locker room.

The first question, which was more of a leading statement, was about how painful it was to lose. Newton asked, "What's the question?"

On if he could put his disappointment into words: "We lost."

On if Denver did anything different to take away running lanes: "No."

On his message to Panthers fans and supporters: "We'll be back."

On what head coach Ron Rivera told the team after the game: "He told us a lot of things."

On if Denver did anything unexpected on defense: "Nothing different."

On losing Super Bowl 50: "They just played better than us. I don't know what you want me to say. They made more plays than us, and that's what it came down to. We had our opportunities. There wasn't nothing special that they did. We dropped balls. We turned the ball over, gave up sacks, threw errant passes. That's it. They scored more points than we did."

Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning had only 141 passing yards but won his second Lombardi Trophy.

Manning said he told Newton after the game he should be congratulated on his great season and that the Panthers would be back in the Super Bowl.

"They've got some young players with bright futures," Manning said.
