The New York Yankees avoided arbitration with Ivan Nova, reaching agreement Thursday with the right-hander on a one-year, $4.1 million contract.

Nova was seeking $4.6 million and the Yankees initially offered $3.8 million. His salary was $3.3 million each of the past two seasons. The new contract includes the potential for $100,000 in performance bonuses.

The 29-year-old Nova returned from Tommy John elbow surgery in June last year and made 17 starts for the Yankees, finishing with a 6-11 record and a 5.07 ERA.

Nova has a career record of 46-33 with a 4.33 ERA in parts of six major league seasons. His best year came in 2011 when he went 16-4 with a 3.70 ERA.

Entering spring training this year, Nova appears to be the sixth starter on the New York staff and could be ticketed to fill a bullpen role.

With Nova's signing, closer Aroldis Chapman is the only remaining Yankees player yet to reach a deal for 2016.
