INDIANAPOLIS -- Chuck Pagano said that he would fight to keep his job as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. Pagano was true to his word as the team announced Monday night that a four-year contract extension had been worked out.

On Wednesday the team announced what might have been the price paid for Pagano to stay.

The Colts announced they will not renew the contracts of six assistant coaches

Looking elsewhere for jobs are defensive coordinator Greg Manusky, safeties coach Roy Anderson, secondary coach Mike Gillhamer, strength and conditioning coach Roger Marandino, tight Ends Coach Alfredo Roberts and running backs coach Charlie Williams.

Manusky was on Pagano's staff since 2012 after serving as defensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers and the San Francisco 49ers.

The Colts' defense ranked 27th in the NFL with 379.1 yards allowed per game and 25th in total points per game (25.5) in 2015.

Rob Chudzinski is expected to remain as offensive coordinator while Clyde Christensen, the team's quarterbacks coach, is the lone remaining assistant from the Tony Dungy regime. So far.

"We are grateful for the contributions these coaches have made to the Colts during their time here," said Pagano. "Obviously these days are never easy. We wish all of these men the best in their future endeavors."

General manager Ryan Grigson and Pagano apparently worked out issues that had flared over the last couple of seasons. In fact, Irsay announced that the general manager had also received a three-year contract extension.

In four years in charge of the Colts, Pagano put together a 41-23 regular-season won-loss record along with three AFC playoff appearances, three playoff wins and two AFC South championships.

"Yes, continuity plays a role," Irsay said. "It was careful consideration. It wasn't fan pressure or player pressure or anything along those lines.

"It's something where Chuck's won 44 games (playoffs included) over the last four years. That's not easy to do. The cupboard was really empty (in 2012). It was tremendous job by Chuck, Ryan and Bruce Arians to help get us rolling."

The Colts posted three consecutive 11-5 records during Pagano's first three years at the helm. Indianapolis dropped to 8-8 this past season.
