Denver Broncos: 3 Takeaways from week 16

What we learned about the Broncos:

1. Struggling to move the ball, the Broncos picked up their offensive tempo in the second half and overtime, when they scored 17 of their 20 points in the victory over Cincinnati. At times, they employed a no-huddle attack and ran plays quickly, denying the Bengals opportunities to make defensive substitutions. "Whenever offensively you're not moving the ball and you're not generating points, you want to try something different," Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler said. "Our conversation at halftime was to try to pick up the tempo a little bit, show them a look that we have not shown on tape."

2. Kicker Brandon McManus showed his resilience. After missing a potential game-winner badly at the end of regulation, shanking his 45-yard try wide left, McManus drilled a 37-yarder in overtime that stood up for the victory. "I wanted a chance to redeem myself, obviously," McManus said. "I wasn't nervous out there for the second one. I was just mad at myself for such a poor kick on the one before that."

3. With Peyton Manning's health status unchanged, it appears the Broncos are going on the assumption that Osweiler will continue as the starter for the rest of the campaign. Osweiler made his sixth start in the place of Manning, who continues to struggle with a foot injury. Said Broncos coach Gary Kubiak: "Nothing has changed with Brock. If something would change, the players would know first and you all would know second. I told you guys that this week, but our football team is moving forward. Our mindset right now goes to (playing) San Diego."

--WR Emmanuel Sanders caught four passes for 67 yards and a touchdown, increasing his season yardage total to 1,036. He surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the second season in a row and joined fellow WR Demaryius Thomas (1,187 yards receiving) in achieving the milestone.

--LB Brandon Marshall sustained an ankle injury during the game Monday. He was the team's second-leading tackler with seven stops before exiting. He is expected to have the injury further evaluated Tuesday, and his status for Sunday's regular-season finale against San Diego remains unclear.

--QB Brock Osweiler made his sixth start in place of injured Peyton Manning. He improved to 4-2 in that span, including leading Denver to overtime victories over New England on Nov. 29 and Cincinnati on Monday. Osweiler completed 27 of 39 passes for 299 yards and a touchdown, and he was not intercepted.

--Gary Kubiak got his 11th win of the season, surpassing Dan Reeves (10 wins in 1981) for the second-most victories by a Denver head coach in his first season with the club. Kubiak can tie the team record held by Red Miller (12 wins in 1977) with a victory in next Sunday's regular-season finale against San Diego.

--Denver's victory against Cincinnati was its 28th all-time in overtime, including three this season. The OT wins are the most by any NFL club. Washington is second with 25 overtime wins. The three OT wins in 2015 tie a club record for the most in a season, originally set in 2011.
