Green Bay running back Eddie Lacy lost his starting job after missing curfew before last week's game against the Detroit Lions, but he'll get the chance to reclaim the job, Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Tuesday.

The Packers also announced several roster moves, signing wide receiver Jamel Johnson and running back Ross Scheuerman to the practice squad and releasing defensive back Kyle Sebetic from the practice squad.

McCarthy said it's up to Lacy to learn from his mistake and work hard to regain the starting spot.

"Everything Eddie wants to accomplish is right there in front of him," McCarthy said. "Everything is in front of him. If Eddie or any other player wants to jump up and grab that opportunity, it's right in front of them."

The Packers were given a long weekend off after their Thursday night game and hope to return recharged for the final month of the season.

"I think Eddie's been rejuvenated," McCarthy said. "His work was good today. I checked in on him just like I do with all the players, and I look for him to have a very good week of practice, and I look for him to be productive Sunday."

McCarthy has not named a starter for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.

James Starks opened at running back against the Lions before Lacy entered the game. Lacy carried five times for 4 yards in the first half but did not have any attempts after halftime. Rookie John Crockett started the second half and rushed for 22 yards on five carries.

"What's nice about coming off the break is you now have a pretty healthy team," McCarthy said.

The Packers gave former Denver Broncos running back Montee Ball a workout last week but signed the rookie Scheuerman instead.

Scheuerman, a rookie from Lafayette (Pa.), signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in May and was released in August.
