Report: A's sign Ryan Madson

The Oakland A's signed relief pitcher Ryan Madson to a three-year, $22 million contract, ESPN reported Sunday.

Madson, 35, helped the Kansas Royals become the World Series champions in 2015 after not playing at all the previous three seasons because of elbow problems.

Madson was 1-2 with three saves and a 2.13 ERA in 68 relief appearances with Kansas City last season as a setup man.

The A's need help in the bullpen. Closer Sean Doolittle battled injuries last season and finished with an ERA of 4.63 ERA.

The A's acquired reliever Marc Rzepczynski last week.
