Patriots lose another receiver with Aaron Dobson's injury

The New England Patriots put wide receiver Aaron Dobson on season-ending injured reserve and signed safety Dewey McDonald to the 53-man roster on Thursday.

Dobson sustained an ankle injury during the Patriots' win over the Buffalo Bills on Monday night, further depleting New England at wide receiver.

Receivers Danny Amendola (knee), Julian Edelman (foot) and Keshawn Martin (hamstring) already are limited by injuries, leaving Brandon LaFell and rookie Chris Harper as the only healthy players at the position

Dobson, 24, made three starts and played in eight games for the Patriots this year, makiong 13 catches for 141 yards. He was selected in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Colts.

McDonald was claimed off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 28 and played in two games for the Patriots before being released Nov. 12. He was signed to the practice squad on Nov. 14 and released again on Nov. 18.

The 25-year-old began his rookie year in 2014 on the Colts' practice squad and was signed to the 53-man roster last Sept. 29. He played in 12 games, mostly on special teams, and had 13 tackles. McDonald also saw action in all three of the Colts' postseason games.

This year, McDonald was on the Colts' practice squad before he was signed to the 53-man roster and played against New Orleans on Oct. 25. He was released two days later.
