Seattle general manager Jerry Dipoto on Tuesday refuted a report that second baseman Robinson Cano was unhappy and would seek a trade.

According to multiple reports, Cano had indicated he was unhappy with the management change in Seattle and wanted out.

But one of Cano's representatives contacted Dipoto and said the high-priced second baseman wants to stay with the Mariners.

"He reached out to let me know that did not come from Robbie and that's not at all reflective of how he felt," Dipoto told mlb.com. "Shortly after the season ended, I sat down with Robinson in my office for two hours and we had a great talk and I think we left with a very clear understanding of who one another might be."

Dipoto replaced former GM Jack Zduriencik two months ago.

Cano has eight years and $192 million remaining on the 10-year, $240 million contract he signed after leaving the Yankees in free agency.

Despite playing the last two months with an abdominal strain, Cano hit .287 with 21 home runs and 70 RBIs.
